UNCG announces new Hall of Fame class

Olson, Hornak, Caldeira and ’83 soccer team make up Hall of Fame class

GREENSBORO, N.C. – UNC Greensboro Interim Director of Athletics Rod Wyatt announced Tuesday the induction class for 2009 into the UNCG Athletics Hall of Fame. The class – the 10th in the history of the Athletics Hall of Fame – includes volleyball standout Missi Olson Kovachev, softball standout Christine Hornak, the 1983 Division III national champion men’s soccer team, and men’s golfer Joe Caldeira.

“It is with great honor that we welcome these three individuals and, quite possibly, the most dominant team that our program has ever fielded, into the Athletics Hall of Fame,” said Wyatt. “This class is an excellent mix of our Division III heritage – a time when this university was first becoming known on the athletics landscape – and our transition to Division I and those who had a big part in keeping that success moving forward.”
