BALTIMORE, Md. – UNC Greensboro rising junior Blake Hassebrock has been named to the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League all-star team that will compete in the 2009 Mid-Atlantic Classic on Wednesday in Waldorf, Md., the Cal Ripken, Sr. Collegiate Baseball League announced Saturday. His team will compete against a group of all-stars from the Valley Baseball League in a rare inter-league summer college baseball match-up.

The game is slated to begin at 7:05 p.m. at the Regency Furniture Stadium on Wednesday and will be televised nationally by the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN). The game will be preceded by a home run derby at 5:30 p.m.

The two leagues are summer collegiate circuits that use wood bats and play in June and July while the players are on break from school. The rosters of the teams in the leagues are comprised of college baseball players from all over the country.

Hassebrock, who plays for the Youse’s Orioles, has had an incredible summer in 11 appearances out of the bullpen. He currently holds a 1.45 ERA with three saves in 18 2/3 innings pitched. He has struck out 22 batters compared to just 14 walks while only allowing at three earned runs all summer. He has yet to yield a triple or home run and has allowed just one double, as well.
