Post 87 Legion getting it done in series with Mooresville

Tuesday night the Legion Post 87 HiToms defeated Mooresville 13-3 to go up two games to none in the best-of-three series.

Pitcher David Coffey(Ragsdale) got the complete-game victory and Justin Lassiter(High Point Central) smacked a two-run double in second inning with Post 87 down 3-0, as the HiToms then went on to out-score Mooresville 13-0 the rest of the way, to win last night at historic Finch Field in Thomasville.

Game three is set for 7pm tonight in Mooresville and Mooresville was the favored team entering the series, but the Post 87 HiToms have turned this series upside-down.

The Post 87 HiToms (23-9) defeated Mooresville Post 66 14-13 in 12 innings at Mooresville High School Monday night to take a one-to-nothing lead in a best-of-five series. Senior Ethan Ogburn(Southwest Guilford), 6-4 and 170-pounds, got the win for the HiToms throwing four innings and allowing only three runs, while shutting out Post 66 from the tenth inning on.

Senior infielder Kyle Brandenburg(Ragsdale) started the high scoring affair by pounding a grand slam in the first inning to give the HiToms an early advantage. Ogburn allowed Mooresville back into the game giving up three runs in the bottom half of the ninth, before he pitched three scoreless innings giving the Post 87 HiToms a victory.

The HiToms senior catcher Kevin Sanders(High Point Christian) provided the clutch hit in the top of the twelfth inning as he hit a run-scoring single plating junior infielder Cameron Hendrix.
