The Lady Phoenix Girls youth Basketball Organization was started about 10 years ago by Delaney Rudd, former Wake Forest University standout ; whom continued to pursue his dreams of playing basketball on a professional level, went on to play 3 years with the Utah Jazz and 1 year with Portland Trailblazers, he then continued to play another 6 years in Lyon France. Delaney’s love of basketball inspired him to began coaching youth sports, where he started the Lady Phoenix Girls Basketball.

The Lady Phoenix Girls Basketball has won its third National USSSA Championship title, the first two led by Coach Delaney Rudd 2003 & 2004 repeat champions, the third Championship was led by Coach Johnny Richardson in 2009.

Coach Richardson also coaches at the Greensboro Day School, and has also dedicated his life to inspiring and helping youths excel in sports. Coach Ken Herman assisted coach Richardson with getting the girls ready for a highly competitive basketball season. This was the first year Coach Richardson has coached for the Lady Phoenix and this 11u team,we look forward to a repeat championship next year. The 11u Phoenix Girls also participated in AAU Basketball and finished 3rd in the state of NC, finished first in USSA state of NC.

Raven Johnson (Greensboro) was unable to attend Nationals due to injury.

Game 1 Lady Phoenix defeated the Florida Visions 29-24 respectively; Lucky Rudd was high scorer followed by Tamera Thorpe w 7. Game 2: Lady Phoenix defeated Plant City of Florida 48-26; Breanna Best scored 14, followed by Lucky Rudd w 13. Game 3: Phoenix defeated The Comets 48-41; Lucky 13, Tamera 11. Game 4: Phoenix defeated Minnesotta Stars B team 36-3 (free throws), Lucky 12, Tamera 12. Game 5 for the championship Phoenix defeated the Minnesota Stars A team, who was also undefeated during this tournament 50-42, lead by Lucky Rudd with 17 points, also named MVP of the tournament, followed by Callie Herman with 9, Jordan Chavis with 8, Tamera Thorpe with 6, Breanna Best with 5, Aeriel Spears with 3, Breanna Foster with 2, and Kerrigan Ellis who did not score in the game.
