Greensboro College staying busy with baseball recruiting

Greensboro College baseball head Coach Ken Carlyle has announced commitments from seven student-athletes for the upcoming 2009-10 season. The announcement brings the total of Pride baseball newcomers to 19 for next year.

Pitcher Casey Beal graduated from Chatham Central High School, where he hit .435, knocked 3 homers and had 17 RBI. As a pitcher he was 4-2, posted a 2.37 ERA and collected 2 saves. “Casey will be another freshmen pitcher who will compete for a starting spot in the rotation,” said Carlyle.

Drew Arsenault (6’3, 275) is a DH who recently concluded his career at Westchester Country Day School in High Point. “Drew hit .337 and has the size and power to be a good hitter in the future,” Carlyle said.

Arriving via Jordan Matthews High School is Lane Bray, a pitcher and infielder. He hit .432 two home runs and with 18 RBI. On the mound he was 1-0, had 4 saves, 27 Ks and a 2.37 ERA. “Lane will compete right away for those late innings we need to get to closer Trevor Marbry,” noted Carlyle. “He he could add some depth to the infield as well.”

Taylor MacDonald (6’2, 190) is pitcher and third baseman from from Pincrest High School in Southern Pines. MacDonald hit .338 with 3 home runs and 18 RBI. On the mound he went 2-2 in 30 innings. He had 43 strikeouts and an ERA of 2.10. “We are very excited to have a player like Taylor, we think he could be a 2-way player for us right away,” said Caryle.

A recent graduate of Bartlett Yancey High School is Taylor Paschal. He is 6’2, 215 and plays third base, and is a DH. He played for coach Erick Phelps and batted .366 with 11 RBI. He earned All Conference honorable mention honors and received the team’s coaches award. Paschal graduated as a North Carolina Scholar and was Magna Cum Laude. “Taylor is a big Left handed batter who will compete for a spot as a freshmen,” stated Carlyle.

Pride baseball will welcome two more transfer students who will be juniors. Trey Daniel (6’4 220) is a left-handed pitcher who played at local rival Guilford College. “Trey was Guilford’s top left hander out of the bull pen with a team high 11 appearances,” said Carlyle. “He pitched 13 innings, had 12 strikeouts and will compete for a spot in the starting rotation along side Pride ace Mike Manfro.”

Quinn Finnegan is a middle infielder (2B/SS) who played his first two collegiate seasons at Louisburg Junior College. He hit .333, with 14 RBI, had 5 stolen bases as a sophomore. “Quinn is a very athletic player who can play multiple positions,” Carlyle said. “He will push this fall for an infield spot.”
