FRED COUPLES COMMITS TO WYNDHAM CHAMPIONSHIP

Thirteen Major Winners Now in Wyndham Field

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Fan favorite Fred Couples will play in next week’s Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club, it was announced today. Couples won the Masters in 1992, and his commitment means 13 major-championship winners are now in the Wyndham Championship field.

Couples has won 46 tournaments worldwide including 15 PGA TOUR events. He has represented the United States on five Ryder Cup teams and four Presidents Cup teams, and he is the captain for the United States Presidents Cup team this year.

Couples last played the Piedmont Triad’s PGA TOUR event in 1993 in what was his 10th consecutive appearance here; he has two top-five finishes. The Scottsdale, Ariz. resident is an alumnus of the University of Houston; he turned professional in 1980 and graduated from PGA TOUR qualifying school later that year.

“Fred Couples is one of the biggest names in golf, and I know he’ll have huge galleries following him at Sedgefield next week,” tournament director Mark Brazil said. “A commitment from Couples is huge for the Wyndham Championship and sports fans throughout the Piedmont Triad.”

Couples is 92nd in the current FedExCup point standings and 90th in the Official World Golf Rankings. He enjoyed his best season in 1992 when he won the PGA TOUR money title.
