HS Football conference previews

A look at some of the area conferences from the new football yearbook released by NCPreps.com. I just purchased mine on Monday and we now start looking at the area schools and we’ll go into more detail and commentary as the season gets closer.

The Piedmont Triad 4-A Conference and here is how it is supposed to shape up:

1)Ragsdale
2)WS Parkland
3)Glenn
4)Northwest Guilford
5)High Point Central
6)East Forsyth
7)Southwest Guilford

Pre-season Player-of-the-Year is D’onovan Smith RB Ragsdale…..
Early thoughts:You would think that HP Central would have a very good chance to finish higher than fifth……

Metro 4-A Conference:
1)Dudley
2)Page
3)Grimsley
4)Southeast Guilford
5)Southern Alamance
6)Western Guilford
7)Smith

Pre-season Player-of-the-Year will be Major Bryant, LB, from Dudley. Smith fans feel they will move up this year and be among the top four teams in the league. The Eagles feel they are ready to be in the playoff mix, but they will have to win a game first. Once they get their offense in order, Western Guilford may be set to jump up to as high as #4 in the Metro 4-A…….

Mid-Piedmont 3-A Conference
1)Northeast Guilford
2)Asheboro
3)Southern Guilford
4)Ledford
5)North Forsyth
6)Southwestern Randolph

Pre-season Player-of-the-Year is Dimitri Faglier, RB, from Asheboro. Faglier gained over 2,200 yards rushing last season with 21 TD’s and his coach Dee Bulla calls Faglier the best back he has ever coached. Rayshawn Trader, RB, from Northeast is another kid to watch as he heads toward the end zone with his 4.3 speed in the 40…….

Mid State 3-A Conference
1)Eastern Alamance
2)Western Alamance
3)Northern Guilford
4)Eastern Guilford
5)McMichael
6)Burlington Williams
7)Rockingham County
8)Eden Morehead

Pre-season Player-of-the-Year is Keenan Allen, WR/DB, from Northern Guilford…..Eastern and Northern may end up playing the spoiler roles in this conference and you may see either EA or WA falling from the the top-two tier and EG or NG taking their spots………

Piedmont Athletic 2-A Conference
1)WS Carver
2)High Point Andrews
3)Trinity
4)WS Atkins
5)Randleman
6)Wheatmore

Pre-season Player-of-the-Year is RB DeQuan Holder, from WS Carver. The new Wheatmore school is in Randolph County and made up of students primarily who came over from Trinity High School. Wheatmore’s head coach will be former Ragsdale leader, Eugene Everhart.

This should give us an early look at all of our 15 teams from Guilford County….We will have more details and a more in-depth look at the teams as the week unfolds……..

  1. Andy I like this information, but will Keenan be playing at Northern and if not how is he the Pre-season Player-of-the-Year???????

  2. Get Real,
Andy is only posting the information provided in the NCPreps handbook that came out several weeks ago. All of the information in the handbook was gathered from High Schools several months ago before all transfers, suspensions, etc.

  3. As far as we know Keenan Allen is at Northern and he plans on being there this season.

Allen also NCPreps.com pre-season All-State as are David Amerson, Major Bryant,(both from Dudley), Josh Morehead from Eastern Guilford(DB), Billy Stone from Ragsdale(LB), and Kasey Redfern from Ragsdale(K).

Some of these guys land in the 4-A/3-A breakdown and a few made the All State all inclusive list……

We will have more info as the week rolls on….NewBridge Bank Jamborees on Friday and Saturday and Smith has the Super Six on Saturday, plus Southeast Guilford at Northwood on Thursday and High Point Central is at North Forsyth on Wednesday and at West Forsyth on Friday and Grimsley is at East Forsyth on Wednesday…..

Plenty going on and we will have more as the week progresses…..

  4. Will the Super Six be held at Smith High School, also what teams and times?

  5. Here is the inside on the Super Six coming up on Saturday at Smith…..

  6. HIGH POINT CENTRAL LOST THEIR DEFENSE COACH WHEN KEN HELMS LEFT. HE WAS THE MIND BEHIND THE D THAT KEPT HPC IN GAMES. OFFENSE HAS STRUGGLED FOR SEVERAL YEARS WITH A FLAT FOOTED LINE. MAYBE COACH JONES NEEDS TO STICK TO TRACK WHERE HE DOES A GOOD JOB.

  7. There is no way to replace a man like Ken Helms. One of a kind that really knew how to work with his players and get the most out of them. I hope he will contact us here soon. I here he still drops by Culler’s Store in High Point when he is in the area and ready to talk some Georgia Bulldog fo0tball.

Everyone considered him the “Kiffin of the County”. Very similar defensive mind to that of Monte Kiffin of N.C State, Tampa Bay Bucs and now Tennessee.

*****The deal with Smith HS hosting the Super Six on Saturday should be interesting with Charlotte Christian coming in with what many feel is the top linebacking corp in the state. Their three kids have signed with schools like UCLA, Duke, and Florida…..*****
