Ken Carlyle Resigns Pride Baseball Post

Ken Carlyle has resigned as Greensboro College’s head baseball coach, announced Pride athletics director Jean Lojko.

Carlyle has accepted a position with the MBI Sports Agency in Greensboro. He will represent athletes with hopes of playing professional sports.

Greensboro College will conduct an immediate national search for Carlyle’s replacement. “We are confident with the level of success this program has enjoyed over the years that we will find a quality coach who can step in and maintain this momentum,” said Lojko.

Carlyle compiled a career record of 164-152 at GC in his eight years. In 2008, The Pride finished the year with a 26-15 record. Its win total was the second most in program history. Overall, it was GC’s tenth 20-win season and the fifth straight under Carlyle’s direction.

“I loved every minute of my time at Greensboro College,” Carlyle said. “I will miss the staff and the many student-athletes we recruited over the years.”

  1. I spoke with Coach Carlyle the morning of his so called resignation. We talked about the incoming class and how much he was looking forward to the up coming season. I spoke with Jean Lojko this afternoon where she told me Coach Carlyle had resigned. I find this hard to believe. Why would they let a coach go this late in the year? It will be hard to find a coach this late and even harder for the kids to transfer if they wanted to. Most of these kids came to Greensboro to play for Coach Carlyle. It would have been nice if the school could have let the players and parents know before we heard it from the streets.

  2. Bummer! Coach C and GC seemed like a good fit. He did a great job of elevating the baseball program there. We wish him well with his new position/career.

  3. I hate to hear this. Ken Carlyle is a first class individual and probably the most knowledgeable coach in Guilford County. His experience in college, professional ranks and coaching speaks for itself. As an individual thee is not a better role model. Being around him at Proehlific Park and watching him help the PP team was a learning experience. Maybe he will help Justin full time now. I do know they are great friends. Ken had a great recruiting class coming in, I just can’t believe he resigned.

  4. Carlyle is the best pitching instructor in the area. He is a winner and will succeed at whatever he chooses to take on.

  5. If GC had any sense, they would bring back former assistant Brian McGee as their new baseball coach. He is a proven winner, a great recruiter, and a first-class person. In today’s collegiate athletics, where the player-coach relationship is paramount there is no better candidate to fill the position than Brian McGee. Help restore the Pride to GC; bring in BRIAN MCGEE!!

  6. Was he told to resign or did he really step down on his own? Sounds like there are some politics going on behind the scenes because “concerned parent” is right – way too late in the year for this to make any sense seeing as he just announced a whole slew of new commitments to the GC baseball team.

  7. Brian Mcgee is currently the Head Coach at Division II Lake Erie College(GLIAC) in Painesville, Ohio. In his first year he helped lead the Storm to a program record of wins and in his second year his first recruiting class helped re-write the record books. The program he is building over there is on the rise. Mcgee is in fact a great coach, however i dont see him coming back. He has a lot of talent over there, look out for that program to be on the rise and one of the best in the nation in the next few years.
