Running just as fast as they can: Greensboro College men’s and women’s X-Country

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Greensboro College was picked third and Christopher Newport University first in the preseason coaches’ poll to defend its USA South Athletic Conference men’s cross country title in 2009.

Christopher Newport received five of six first place votes (25 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Shenandoah University finished second in the balloting with 21 points and the final first place vote while Greensboro College rounded out the top-three as The Pride received 13 points. In fourth place, Methodist University earned 12 points while Ferrum College and Averett University concluded the poll with 11 and eight points, respectfully.

The GC men’s cross country season, under the direction of first year Head Coach Randy Tuggle, gets underway on Saturday, September 12 at the Salem College Invitational.

Christopher Newport received nine of ten first place votes (81 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.

Shenandoah University finished second in the balloting with 73 points and the final first place vote while Meredith College placed third with 59 points. Rounding out the top-five were Mary Baldwin College and Greensboro College who collected 57 and 40 points, respectfully.
