Elon whips Wildcats badly in home-opener at Rhodes Stadium

Quarterback Scott Riddle threw for 326 yards and four touchdowns and the Elon defense was relentless as the 11th-ranked Phoenix shut out the visiting Davidson Wildcats, 56-0, in the season-opener at Rhodes Stadium on Saturday night in the first meeting between the two schools since 1954.

The shutout was only the third-ever of an opponent at Rhodes Stadium and Elon’s first since Nov. 11, 2006, a 45-0 victory over North Carolina A&T.

Former WS Reynolds quarterback Jeremy Peterson, now a true-freshman wide receiver for the Phoenix, caught one of those four touchdowns from Riddle.

It was a long day for Davidson play-by-play man John Kilgo, who is now paying for all those years where he had it made hosting the Dick Crum Show, on the Tar Heel Sports Network, and locally on Sundays at noon on WFMY TV 2. That’s one show that I will never forget. Details at 11………
