Guilford soccer shoots and SCORES!

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Freshman Freddy Gomez (Burlington, N.C./Williams) scored three goals and an assist to lead Guilford College past Gallaudet University, 10-1, in the second game of the Guilford College Classic, presented by Time Warner Cable. The Quakers set school records for goals, assists (7) and points (27) in the contest.

Milligan University downed Methodist University, 3-1, in Friday’s tournament opener behind a goal and an assist by Rusty Baxter.

Eight different Quakers (1-1) tallied to break the former record for goals in a match set in a 9-0 win over Wingate University in 1982. Gomez set up Henry Cordeal’s header to open the scoring in the 13th minute. Gomez tallied twice in a 92-second span midway through the period, followed by a Jeff Floyd penalty kick one minute later that opened a 4-0 halftime edge. Gomez closed out his scoring by drilling a loose ball from 20 yards out 1:19 into the second half.

Zane Noschese scored off a Richard Speiker assist midway through the second half for the Bison’s (0-1) lone tally.
