Panthers make their stake in Jake, but don’t rule out adding another QB

from www.charlotteobserver.com:

Carolina Panthers coach John Fox said Jake Delhomme remains the starting quarterback despite a five-turnover performance, which followed his six-turnover day in Carolina’s 33-13 home playoff loss to Arizona in January.

Fox kept in play during his Monday news conference the possibility that the Panthers will bring in an other quarterback before practice resumes Wednesday.

He said he “wouldn’t rule it out” until after he learns more about Josh McCown’s availability for Sunday’s game at Atlanta. McCown suffered knee and foot sprains in the Panthers’ 38-10 season-opening loss to Philadelphia.

Fox said he wouldn’t necessarily expect the Panthers to add a quarterback even if McCown can’t play against the Falcons, noting that the team has gone into games with two quarterbacks before.

Among free agent quarterbacks available: Jeff Garcia, Brian Griese, A.J. Feeley and Joey Harrington.

When asked how secure is Delhomme’s hold on the starting job, Fox said: “Probably like the security of all of us, day to day.”

  1. Unfortunately the Panthers had the same opportunity to get Michael Vick as the Eages but they passed in favor of a guy that just throw the season away in the playoffs. I am quite sure even the protestors of Vick are sliently wishing that he was a Panther instead of Jake. I am also sure the Panthers cannot trade with the Eagles for a Vick because now the Eagles and the rest of the NFL know that the Panthers only have 2 solid star players in Julius Peppers and Steve Smith. Maybe it is time go back to the Redskins. Oh I am sorry but I forgot they also suck. When does ACC basketball start this year ?

  2. I hear Panthers just signed AJ Feeeiy (sp) while The Eagles signed Garcia. We cant even attract the better “veteran” QBs.

  3. Ah hah! The plot thickens and we can wonder if Jake is the real reason the Richardson boys are gone. Ideas?

  4. The Panthers are not only a mediocre football team, but a mediocre organization. They have half-tailed their
way through this league since day one. This team was built completely wrong. Yes, they went to the Super Bowl,
but they stumbled ass backwards into it. They played the Bears in the NFC Championship, but the Bears had a joke of an offense and team also.
Jerry Richardson needs to sale this team and get out of the NFL business. Jake Delhomme is evident of
the mediocre style of Carolina. Carolina payed a player , that is at best a 3rd stringer, a ton of money.
