York over Greensboro on Sunday at Doug Hamilton Tournament

Greensboro, NC — York College defeated Greensboro College, 4-0, on Sunday at Macpherson Stadium. York won the third annual Doug Hamilton Memorial Tournament and Spartan Jon Ports was the MVP. In Sunday’s early game, NC Wesleyan bested Cape Fear CC, 2-0.

York collected 16 shots to eight for The Pride. Mazi Heydary (Greensboro, N.C./Ragsdale) started and played the first 72 minutes. He made three saves and allowed all of the goals. Jacob Wolf (Swansboro, NC/Swansboro) played the last 16:33 and recorded two saves.

A Pride turnover in its defensive created a one-on-one opportunity between Mike O’Connell and Heydary. McConnell’s shot made the score 1-0 in the 17th minute.

In the 43rd minute, Justin Scuhoski made a short pass to Taylor Brummitt within the box that Brummit converted for the goal. The score remained 2-0 at the break.

Lucas Emil socred on a free kick from 25 yards out in the 57th minute for the third goal. Travis Williams converted penalty kick for the game’s final tally in the 60th minute.

York had 10 corner kicks to two for The Pride. Dennis Geoffrey (Elon, NC/Western Alamance) had three shots and two of The GC’s shots on goal in the contest.
