Page Surges Back to top Northeast Guilford 31-28

This game was a tale of two halves. Northeast came out with the ball first and utilized their wing-options offense, driving 80 yards for a 6 yard Darrius White run making it 6-0. Page blocked the PAT. On Page’s first drive they powered down to the 9 yard line before stalling out and Austin Anthony’s FG was good making it 6-3 Northeast Guilford.

The Rams drove there way down the feild again eating up alot of time on the clock and scored from 9 yards out with a Rayshawn Trader catch from White. The 2 pt. conversion would fail to make it 12-3. Page would then waste no time to try and close the score gap. The Pirates mixed in alot more passing plays and it showed this drive. A big air gainer set up a 1 yard Tony Rustin plunge to make it 12-10 Northeast Guilford.

The Pirates defense showed up on the next NE possession and stopped them on a 4th and short inside the redzone with less then 2 minutes in the half. Page would look to score before half time to go up, but on 2nd and 2, QB James Summers broke for a 15 yard rush and got blindsided and fumbled the ball. NE Guilford would not waste the possession before half and scampered into the end zone with 18 seconds left on the clock. Jacob McCann on the 4 yard run. McCann would score on the 2 pt. conversion try, giving the Rams a 20-10 lead at the half.

Page did the usual homecoming festivities at halftime, and it was all back to business from there.

Page continued to pound the ball wearing out the Northeast defense. QB and RB Trader and White played on both sides of the ball, and I think they got alittle winded in the 3rd quarter.

21 points opened the flood gates with Lenny Gordon scoring from 1 yard out, and Drew Rogers adding two more after that. 31-20 in the 4th quarter.

Northeast wouldn’t quit as Micheal Sanders broke free down the left side for a 40 yard TD sprint. Northeast was still in it 31-28.

Page would try to run the clock out with about 4 minutes left, and sputtered on 2 pass incomplete plays on 3rd and 4th downs. Giving Northeast the ball back with about a 1:40 left in the game. The Pirate defense came up big holding the Rams to a 4th and 14 try and DB Ambrose Wallace came up big with the interception to seal the game.

Page Sophomore QB James Summers had some big gainers on the ground and 3-4 pinpoint lasers for big gains through the air.

Thuc Phan rushed for 107 yards on 18 carries.

Sanders led Northeast Guilford in rushing with 74 yards on nine carries

  1. page o line punished northeast up front.their o line coach was back after being sick last week this looks like page of old.

  2. Andy after watching Page get totally destroyed by Ragsdale last week when they were never in the game, then they barely get by NEG, I would have to say Page is the most OVERRATED team in Guilford County if not the whole state.

  3. Northeast is probably the best (2-3) team in the state. They had very close games with Reidsville and Northern Guilford. They are not a cupcake as you make it sound. Their record does not indiciate their strength and talent.
