“Go to Guy” Gomez scores again, Guilford wins again

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – Sophomore Jonathan Shine (Zionville, N.C.) made seven saves for his first college shutout in visiting Guilford College’s 3-0 soccer win over Methodist University Wednesday. The victory marked Guilford’s (6-3-1) second in the 12-game season series and its first since 2002.

Rookie Freddy Gomez (Burlington, N.C.) scored his team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 11th minute to give the Quakers a quick 1-0 lead. Junior Tom Crowley netted his first college goal with just under 10 minutes remaining in the half for a 2-0 lead. Ronnie Castellanos (Lexington, N.C.) closed out the scoring with his fifth goal of the season in the 68th minute.

Methodist (2-6) outshot Guilford, 19-8.
