FINAL:
Hampden-Sydney 31
Guilford College 6

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Kirk Rohle rushed for two touchdowns and caught another score in Hampden-Sydney College’s 31-6 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) win at Guilford College Saturday night.

Rohle added 151 rushing yards on 27 carries as the Tigers’ (4-0, 1-0 ODAC) posted their 10th straight win over the Quakers (0-4, 0-1 ODAC). Rohle ran for 126 yards and scored all of his touchdowns in the second half. The Tigers broke open a 10-6 game with 21 unanswered points in the second half.

Rohle’s 17-yard run around the left end and through the Quakers’ secondary capped a four-play, 46-yard drive. Rohle took a shovel pass from Corey Sedlar 11 yards into the end zone on Hampden-Sydney’s next possession, which finished off a five-play, 70-yard drive. He ended the game’s scoring with a one-yard plunge on third-and-goal with 8:48 left in regulation. The touchdown finished an 11-play, 80-yard drive, Hampden-Sydney’s longest of the game.

The first rain on a Guilford home game since November 1995 and a stingy Tigers’ defense limited the Quakers to 139 total offensive yards, their fewest in a game since 2004.

Andrew Sellers’ 10 tackles, including a sack, and Bill Doody’s two interceptions led Hampden-Sydney’s defense. Guilford scored on Billy Watkins’ one-yard run late in the second quarter, which capped an 11-play, 80-yard scoring drive aided by two Tigers’ pass interference penalties. De’Shawn Lindsay’s fumble recovery in the end zone set up the score.

Senior linebacker Richie Paul paced Guilford’s tacklers for the fourth straight week with a game-high 11 stops, including a sack. Lindsay added nine tackles and Jordan Nelson had eight tackles and an interception. Nelson’s touchdown-saving tackle forced thesecond-quarter fumble leading to Guilford’s touchdown.

The Quakers host NAIA-member Southern Virginia University next Friday(10/2) night at 7:00 p.m. in the Armfield Athletic Center.
