Up in Staunton, Virginia near Walton’s Mountain, Mary Baldwin College could have used a few more of the Baldwin sisters from the “The Waltons”, as Greensboro College went in a pulled off a Yancey Tucker, topping MBC 11-0 on Saturday…….(This is some good and interesting stuff, Mary Baldwin’s nickname is the “The Squirrels”!)

Was the show that came on CBS on Thursday evenings called “The Waltons” or something else like “The Homecoming”, or even Walton’s Mountain?????? I do remember the theme song each week and all the other trademark parts of the show……

GC put on a show up in Virginia near Charlottesville:

Staunton, Va. — The Greensboro College women’s soccer team opened USA South play on Saturday with an 11-0 win at Mary Baldwin College. Freshmen Mary Reinhardt (Winston-Salem, NC/Mount Tabor) and Cara Wilcox (Charlotte, NC/Mallard Creek) led The Pride offense with two goals and an one assist apiece.

Netting one goal and assist for GC were Meredith Kelly (Snow Camp, NC/Southern Alamance), Sarah Hopkins (Greensboro, NC/Home School), Megan Roberts (Baltimore, MD/Maryvale), Michelle Reger (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and Melissa Torzewski (Glen Gardner, NJ/Voorhees).

The Pride out shot the Squirrels 19-1 and led in corner kicks 2-0. GC led 7-0 at the half.

MBC’s Erica Gauhan had 13 saves. GC’s Katie Allegro (Statesville, NC/West Iredell ) stopped one shot and earned her third shutout of the year.

GC (3-4) plays at Shenandoah on Sunday. Match time was set for Noon.

*****Neat Net Note:Greensboro College has one player, Sarah Hopkins from Greensboro, that was home-schooled.*****
