GUILFORD GOLFERS RANKED FOURTH IN SECOND COACHES’ POLL
Greensboro, N.C. –Guilford College’s men’s golf team moved up five spots into fourth place in the second Division III Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches’ Poll released Wednesday. The new number one team in the poll is Methodist University, which earned 11 out of the 15 first-place votes. Huntingdon College ranks second with one first-place vote. Defending NCAA Division III champion Oglethorpe University fell two spots to third in the poll and received three first-place votes. Skidmore College rounds out the top five.
Senior Peter Latimer (Markinch Fife, Scotland/Madras) owns the Quakers’ lowest stroke average with a 73.25 over eight rounds. He is followed closely by classmate Brian Creghan (Radnor, Pa./Conestoga) (73.38) and freshman Noah Ratner (Asheville, N.C./Asheville) (73.63).
The Quakers came in fourth in the 12-team Davidson College Invitational Monday and Tuesday. Ratner had the team’s best individual performance, tying for fourth with a 222 total. Creghan had the low round for the Quakers with a career-low 69 in Tuesday’s final round.
Jack Jensen’s Quakers return to action next Monday and Tuesday (10/19-20) at the Oglethorpe Invitational in Oakwood, Ga. Guilford concludes the fall season by hosting the 31st annual Tom and Bettie O’Briant Memorial, which typically features 10-12 nationally ranked Division III teams.
