Phoenix slide past Pride in women’s action

Elon, NC — The Greensboro College Pride women’s soccer team lost at at NCAA Division I Elon University on Wednesday night. Cara Wilcox (Charlotte, NC/Mallard Creek) scored for The Pride, which dropped to 6-6-1.

The Phoenix led 2-0 at halftime. GC, however, got its goal in the 46th minute. Wilcox made a run and lofted the ball over Shannon Cosgrove for the tally. The goal was Wilcox’s sixth of the season.

The score remained 2-1 until the 71st minute when Shannon Foley notched her second goal of the contest. In the 90th minute, Elon’s Caroline Klara placed a shot above Greensboro College keeper Katie Allegro (Statesville, NC/West Iredell ) for the match’s final score.

Allegro recorded two saves for The Pride.

Elon (9-3-2) led in shots, 19-3, and corner kicks, 8-1.

The Pride is back in action on Oct 21 when Salem College visits for a 3 p.m. game.
