Lineback is “The Linebacker” for ECU in win over Rice

Coach Skip Holtz quote on Lineback:
On the Defensive Effort: “The defense played really well today. Dustin Lineback had a huge interception at a crucial point in the game and the floodgates opened from there. We were just trying to keep the ball in front of us.”

Dustin Lineback recorded a career-high eight tackles (five assists) in his first start of the season and third of his career … Picked off first career pass in the fourth quarter (36-yard return).

Dustin Lineback(Southeast Guilford HS) got the start for East Carolina yesterday in the Pirates 49-13 win over the Rice Owls. Lineback was a starting linebacker for Coach Fritz Hessenthaler’s SEG Falcons back in high school, and during the radio broadcast with Jeff Charles on local AM950 they listed Lineback as a linebacker from Climax, N.C.

Climax, Forrest Oakes, Liberty Road, Hagan-Stone Park Road, Highway 62 or 421, it didn’t matter on Satrurday. Lineback reached a peak and had the best day of his young college career, as he made several key tackles and he picked off a pass that turned the game in the direction of the Pirates.

The interception by Lineback and his long return after the pick, were highlighted by play-by-play man Jeff Charles and his color man Kevin Monroe, throughout the game and on into the post-game show, where ECU head football coach Skip Holtz joined in on the praise of Dustin Lineback, from Southeast Guilford High School.

Lineback, was “The Linebacker” on Saturday, and he really did his part to put Guilford County on the map for high school football…….

Jack Schultz from Grimsley, Derek Blacknall from Dudley and Justin Venable, also from Southeast Guilford, all saw action for East Carolina on Saturday and we will have more on them later on, on Monday.

Going back to Saturday afternoon in Greenville, N.C., it was the day that Lineback put the SEG Falcons back on the map and stamped his name into ECU Pitate football history, with his outstanding performance.

  1. What a game Dustin had. Talked to him last night and told him how proud I was of him. I know that the Southeast community is too. Dustin was all over the place. I’m looking forward to seeing him have a big game against Virginia Tech. I know he and Justin Venable are getting better each game. Go Pirates!!!
