Guilford Leads After First Round of Oglethorpe Invitational‏

OAKWOOD, Ga. – Guilford College shot an even-par 284 to take a two-stroke lead after the first of two rounds of the Royal Lakes/Oglethorpe Invitational Monday at the Royal Lakes County Club. Emory University shot 286 in Monday’s opening round and heads into Tuesday’s final round two shots behind the Quakers and four strokes ahead of top-ranked Methodist University (290).

LaGrange College’s Hudson Keener shot five-under-par 66 to take the top spot on the individual leader board. Methodist’s Josh Schrader and Emory’s Shane Miller both shot 67.

Guilford’s Peter Latimer may have been in the lead, if not for bogeys on his last two holes of the day. The Scottish senior finished with a two-under 69, two strokes better than teammates Brian Creghan and Noah Ratner. Sophomore Dusty Roberts (Reidsville, N.C./Rockingham County) shot 73. Rookied J.T. Thomas (Raleigh, N.C./Broughton) shot 76.

The 36-hole tournament concludes Tuesday.
