  1. Two things: 1)What is Reidsville not a local team? And don’t give me the Guilford County excuse, because Kernersville Bishop McGuinness is not located in Guilford County. Plus the fact that Reidsville is the only local team that has a legitimate shot at winning the state title you should want to consider them local. 2) The only reason I could see EA being ahead of NG is due to being a known commodity. However, I do agree they exhibited on field that they were a better club and should be ranked higher. But as you see with the politics of high school sports I am sure the history of the athletic program at NG has something to do with how the votes shake out.

  2. Not saying it’s correct but not everyone considers Reidsville in the triad.

How can you say they are the only team with a legit shot at winning a title? I think Dudley might have something to say about that based on the last 2 years. Page is strong as is ragsdale and maybe HPC.

  3. I am sure all baseballfan is saying is that when Page, Dudley, Ragsdale, HPC win 40+ consecutive games they will then be legitimate threats at the state title like Reidsville. Oh yeah, thats right, there are two state champions in every class. LMAO! So they all do have a chance! Stupidest thing that has ever been done. By the way, the NCHSAA put Reidsville in the Triad 3-A for a good while. I guess they saw them in the Triad. Put Reidsville in any class and I guarantee they go as deep in the playoffs as any school in Guilford County.

  4. Joe,
Joe Barile’s family has very solid background in the military and his father and his father before him, served our country well…Andy Durham

  5. We have several kids that live in Greensboro but play for Bishop, that’s why we have always tried to look their way when it comes to area inclusion.

You bring up a good point about Reidsville and they have a very interest good football team. Since we have intrest there we will begin to include them in more of our Triad listings but we have to keep our emphasis on Greensboro area teams, because that is our foundation, that’s in our name…..

A thought on Reidsville, is it the coaching our just the fact that they have so much talent in the area? The coach leaves after last year and they are still cleaning people’s clocks.. Is it the coach or do they just have a football factory growing on and on in Reidsville.

Houghton came in last year when the starter got hurt and he was super and the Doe kids just seem to keep comimg out of the woodwork up there, Kendall and Kenzell and others….

Good points on Reidsville and we will see if we can get some talk going up there……

And another thought, what happened to Thomasville this year? Is Don Osborne still there?

  6. Pretty sure there is more than one Joe that posts on this site.

Joe Barile still posts as Joe Barile……

  7. That looks to be correct TA. Different Joe on here today and Joe Barile still brings the JB.

Maybe the best known Joe of all-time was the “Stay Away Joe”, from the Elvis flick.

    Interesting thoughts.

  8. Reidsville runs there program as a city not just a school. all of the teams there run the same offense. from little league to middle school to high school. that is all the kids know. by the time they reach varsity level they have it down to an art. needless to say they have went undefeated from middle school up for years now. i don’t think anyone in guildford county can touch them. if so why will nobody schelude them?

  9. The reason NG is ranked where they are they play in a very weak conference.
The only team who could have beat them came up short on a two point conversion EA.
WA is the only possible threat left for NG.

  10. I know the Reidsville program very well and it is a combination of commitment from the coaching staff and a plethora of talent that comes up through there youth programs. There is a sense of loyalty and pride in the community and the school. Just another thought, the coach came up through the program and has a heart for Reidsville Football. All this combined leads you to a 40+ game winning streak.

  11. baseballfan – why not use some of that plethora of talent in other sports programs, like maybe baseball or you may need to change your name?

  12. I get easily confused, justathought! Don’t understand the idea of changing my name? A person can exhibit knowledge in other sports other than the one in which they have playing and coaching experience. I know a little about alot and alot about a little. Haha! And baseball in Reidsville isn’t so bad, it is just a fact that resources out there are used mainly in other sports (i.e. basketball and football).

  13. Seems like i’m the topic of discussion again..

btw, i’m not the ‘joe’ guy thats posts under that name.

  14. norespect – your post about Northern Guilford makes no sense.

you say Northern is ranked where they are (behind Eastern Alamance) because they play in a weak conference. Doesn’t eastern play in that same “weak” conference?

A conference that has both Northern and Eastern Alamance doesn’t sound very weak to me

  15. Have you seen some of the scores lately with NG and EA. EA put up 70-plus last week and NG has had back-to-back weeks of 50-plus….I think they are both trying to get the pollsters attention like Ohio State and Michigan back in the day…..

And what about Western Alamance?????They are pretty solid and NG has them the final game of the regular season, I do believe……

  16. Mark, Andy explained my point about the weak conference and the rankings very well.
Other than the tight game between NG & EA they have blown everybody else away
by 50, 60 pts. My point when you play in a weak conference you run up the score week after week. My point does make sense, other than EA & maybe Western Alamance
the conference is weak. EA is ranked higher because as one poster said is a better team than NG. Now does that make you feel better.

  17. You guys forget, NG beat NW Guilford and should have beat Dudley…they were leading Dudley most of the game.. isn’t Dudley one of the best in the state? I would put NG against any team in the 4A conference and anyone in the state…

  18. ” The reason NG is ranked where they are they play in a very weak conference”

@ least NG had the kahone’s to schedule (4) VERY GOOD out of conference games and beat 3 outta 4…WG, then NEG then NWG + the close loss to Dudley…how’s that for making up for as you say a “weak conference”?

BTW, don’t most conferences have only 2-3 “top teams” ?

  19. You guys can’t read. We were talking about conference play not non conference games.
NG is a good football team however I can think of plenty of 4A teams that would bury them.
And by the way almost beating Dudley is still a loss.
NG plays in a weak conference and should win the conference easy.
Let’s see NG schedule Reidsville next year if they beat them then you can brag.
Oh they can’t schedule Reidsville next year they Keenan will be gone.

  20. Bottom Line to all:
NG and EA are both second to Ragsdale, Dudley, and probably Page. Get a life NG fans

  21. There are a lot of good teams in this area.
Who do you think is the best, all things considered.

    Ragsdale?????
    Reidsville????
    Dudley?????
    West Forsyth????
    Reynolds?????
    Northern?????

  22. ” We were talking about conference play not non conference games. ”

I fully understand you were talking about conference games. What I am saying and you won’t acknowledge is NG has no control over how strong or weak their conference is. What they can control and went out and did, was schedule quality out of conference games. 3 out of those 4 being away games.

” Let’s see NG schedule Reidsville next year if they beat them then you can brag”

I don’t think NG would have a problem @ all playing Reidsville…may not beat ’em who knows but they wouldn’t shy away from it…

  23. I will agree NG has a good team. However as they go along in the playoffs
the quality of teams they will play will get better every week. They have only been really tested a couple of times this season ( Dudley & Eastern Alamance ).
To win a state title you have to be strong on both sides of the ball.

  24. ” However as they go along in the playoffs the quality of teams they will play will get better every week.”

    No kidding?

” To win a state title you have to be strong on both sides of the ball ”

I’d say NG offense is almost as good as the defense… 😉 and btw, who said anything about winning a state title? one game at a time…but thats a sign of respect if you think NG is thinking state champion…and feel the need to chirp in on that…

” They have only been really tested a couple of times this season ( Dudley & Eastern Alamance ).”

boy, thats a cut on NEG and NWG…but I guess you kinda lump all the “lessor” teams in together, huh?

  25. actually norespect, you are the only one talking about conference games. The topic at hand was the 3A AP rankings. Those rankings are based on the whole season not just the conference games. As a matter of fact – Massey Ratings has Northern ranked third. So does Drew Pasteur’s Fantastic 50. Both those guys use statistical analysis and power rankings. Pasteur has Northern with the third toughest schedule of any 3A team. So maybe that (and not a weak conference) is why they are ranked.

Does that make YOU feel better?

and FWIW – I am in no way shape or form a Northern Guilford fan but I do recognize a strong team when I see one.

and to answer whosethebest up there – Ragsdale is the best (4A anysway) and I don’t think there is much doubt about that. I would love to see a Reidsville-Ragsdale matchup. It would be close but even there I think this year’s Ragsdale team takes it.

  26. ok ok ok…..Your right team Keenan should be ranked above Eastern. They beat em plus they have the same record.

    Move team Keenan up!
    Move Eastern Down!

  27. I agree with Mark, I would love to see a Reidsville-Ragsdale matchup. However, I disagree on the winner. And for this one simple reason (and I don’t sweep elephants under the rug here). Reidsville’s athletes have dealt with more life adversity then Ragsdale’s. So when the chips were down in the 4th quarter, Reidsville finds a way where Ragsdale who has dealt with less life adversity wilts. Go ahead ask me what is life adversity? Or in layman’s terms, Reidsville’s kids haven’t had the best facilities to work with or things handed to them like most other teams not just saying this about Ragsdale because we all know other schools that like to throw around where they live and what they have and what they can do for a certain kid. I do think though from a player and coaching standpoint they are neck and neck.

  28. “and btw who said anything about winning a state title”

Nobody said anything about NG winning a state title.

  29. Northern did not lead Dudley m0st 0f the game. Northern led in the 4th quarter. Dudley went to run the ball down NG throat on the game winning drive late in the 4th.

  30. ” Nobody said anything about NG winning a state title.”

can you not read? I even quoted in my response where bottomline said:

” To win a state title you have to be strong on both sides of the ball “

  31. I agree with Mark, I would love to see a Reidsville-Ragsdale matchup. However, I disagree on the winner. And for this one simple reason (and I don’t sweep elephants under the rug here). Baseballfan, I have to politely disagree with your post. I have no idea who would win a game betwen the two schools. I imagine each year would be different. Some years Ragsdale, some years Reidsville. But when it comes to adversity Ragsdale does not have not near the facilities of most schools. A few games back the varsity had to borrow leg pads from JV players. They have to use 3 different lockerrooms. The showers were not usable until after football season last year. They get 1/2 of a practice field. A weight room that only fits 25 kids. Our kids see more than their fair share of adversity. More than half the school is on assisted lunch. Try serving the team meal to the team before a game. Many kids go through that line and when you put food on their plate they look up and ask for more and you know you already don’t have enough for everyone. For many of those kids it’s the best meal they will get. As a parent you want to give and give. You want to donate and help the kids but it seems you can never do enough. It hurts sometimes.

But for all our shortcomings Ragsdale is blessed with some great coaches who do a lot of mentoring to the kids. Those coaches don’t save every kid but they make a difference in a lot of kids lives. And that goes a lot further than W’s and L’s. And no slight to any other school. True teachers/coaches are doing this at many schools.

  32. Reidsville has had some fine football teams. None better than the ones QB’ed by Anthony Crews.

Crews was one heck of a quarterback and to think that Elon had him, moved him and then he came back home from what I heard. Elon had Crews and Wes Pope and nearly lost them both.

  33. Kirk, I agree with your posts that most schools do not have the facilities including Ragsdale and Reidsville. I should have included this thought in my earlier post that might help clarify where I was going. Jamestown and Reidsville are completely different communities. I work in one currently and grew up in the other so I have seen where they were and are currently. A Ragsdale student/athlete doesn’t have the same life experience, whether it be positive or negative, as that of the Reidsville student/athlete. And unfortunately, I am talking about SES (socioeconomic status)! I am sure the poorest Ragsdale kid is just as poor as the poorest Reidsville kid. Another factor has to be exposure, this website included, you have to be honest with yourself even I know about Stone, Redfern, Sparks, Anderson, Heavner, etc. But I have followed Reidsville football for many years and I could only provide you with about two names (Butchee, Doe?) Why is this? Is it because they have went to camps and been seen? Probably so! And that is the underlying basis for my argument that Ragsdale kids have a little edge in the resources department, even if it is only press or news clippings. Here is a thought! Robertson and Norwood, schedule a game!

  34. “boy, thats a cut on NEG and NWG…but I guess you kinda lump all the “lessor” teams in together, huh?”
youpeoplewillsayanything , They ought to be better than NEG players because they have 4/5 of our former players

  35. ” They ought to be better than NEG players because they have 4/5 of our former players”

4/5ths of your players? Wow, ya’ll got rooked when GCS decided to build a new high school and draw the lines in a way that took away 80% of your team and gave it to NG… and I thought GCS only had it in for NG !

  36. People just don’t want to give the Northern football team any credit. They are having a great season. It’s that simple. Coach Roscoe is doing a great job and the kid’s are playing well. HOW can EA be rated ahead of them when they are both 7-1 and NG beat them at their field? They are in the same conference so they play the same teams. The reasons stated above don’t make any sense. They are both very good, but NG should be rated higher. People just like to hate Northern.

Not 4/5’s, but 4 or 5 of our players
