Campbell named SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. –UNC Greensboro forward Thomas Campbell was named the
Southern Conference Men’s Soccer Player of the Week on Tuesday for his outstanding play in last Saturday’s win over Gardner-Webb.

Campbell, a redshirt senior, helped UNC Greensboro snap a three-game losing skid with a five-point effort in a 3-1 win over Gardner-Webb. He assisted on Matt Foxx’s goal in the eighth minute to give the Spartans a 1-0 lead over the Bulldogs. The Middletown , N.J. , native tallied a goal of his own just two minutes later to give UNCG a 2-0 lead. After Gardner-Webb had trimmed the lead to 2-1 midway through the second half, Campbell scored in the 87th minute to ice the win for the Spartans.

It is the second time in Campbell’s career that he has earned Player of the Week honors, having being named to the honor in October 2007.

It was Campbell’s second two-goal game this season and the sixth multiple-goal game of his career. With five points in Saturday’s game, Campbell is now tied for eighth place in the league with 12 points. His five goals rank tied for fifth in the league.

The Spartans (4-7-3, 1-1-1 SoCon) return to action Saturday, October 24 when they host Georgia Southern at 7:00 p.m.
