Guilford golf grabs second in Georgia tournament

OAKWOOD, Ga. – Top-ranked Methodist University stormed back from a six-stroke deficit to win the Oglethorpe/Royal Lakes Invitational Tuesday at the Royal Lakes Country Club. The Monarchs carded the tournament’s low round with a one-under-par 283 Tuesday and outdistanced the 16-team field by seven strokes. Guilford, which shot 284 in Monday’s first round, shot 296 Tuesday and finished seven shots behind Methodist at 580. Emory University (286-296-582) placed third.

The Monarchs’ Josh Schrader shot two-under-par 69 Tuesday and claimed his third medalist title of the fall by edging Guilford’s Peter Latimer (Markinch Fife, Scotland), 136-137. Latimer shot a season-low 68 Tuesday, which was the low round of the day.

Guilford’s Noah Ratner and Brian Creghan both shot 75 Tuesday and finished with matching scores of 146. J.T. Thomas totaled 154 after a second-round 78. Teammate Dusty Roberts shot 73-86-159.

The Quakers close out the autumn portion of their schedule next week when they host the Tom and Bettie O’Briant Memorial at the Cardinal Golf and Country Club in Greensboro.
