HS football Saturday morning rewind

Last night’s games do nothing more than pave the way and set the table for what’s coming up next Friday night with two very big contests waiting in the wings in Page at Dudley and Glenn at Ragsdale.

There are just three losses on the season among those four schools and it’s time to start deciding conference championships and those decisions begin next Friday evening…..

Page stands at (8-1) and Dudley is the same at (8-1), while Glenn goes into Jamestown with the identical (8-1) mark, Ragsdale is the county’s only unbeaten team at (9-0). Page rolled last night, as did Dudley, but it was Glenn walking the tightrope with the Bobcats 14-7 victory over High Point Central in Kernersville. The Ragsdale Tigers had last night off. There will also be a big one going on in Forsyth County with WS Reynolds and West Forsyth both at (9-0) going at it on Friday.

Speaking of records, ours went the way of (8-3) from last evening with the misses coming in Smith at Grimsley, WS Parkland at NWG and HPC at Glenn. I guess (8-3) is not terrible and now we stand at (52-8) over the past six weeks, but that does not measure up to the standards we have set for ourselves here at this site.

Nice win at home for Grimsley over Smith with the 3-0 final. There did not appear to be a lot of offense in this game and Smith missed the four field goals, while Joe Rosabbi hit his for Grimsley when it counted and it counted, and Paul Lambeth will have more on this game coming in later today. Grimsley at Southern Alamance next week and now the Whirlies have two conference wins(2-2)….

Joe Barile had this info for us on the Page win over Southern Alamance and he may have more for us later on:
Page RB Drew Rogers had 20 carries for 232 yards, 4 TDs and FB Lenny Gordon 11 carries for 93 yards, 3 TDs.
Page had close to 400 yards rushing and close to 500 yards of total offense.
S. Alamance had 299 yards of total offense.
Page scored on 7 of their 9 possessions, and didn’t punt in the game.
Big game next week against Dudley (8-1)..

Keenan Alllen had five touchdowns in the Northern Guilford Nighthawk win over Rockingham County. NG put up 63 points and should be able to do the exact same thing next week at Morehead and then they close it out with a challenge at home versus Western Alamance.

Big night for NEG in their over SW Randolph as Rayshawn Trader scored 3TD’s and rushed for 150 yards and the Rams as a team rolled up 504 yards on the ground. Josh Morehead from Eastern Guilford passed for 2TD’s and ran for 2 more, but it wasn’t enough as the EG Wildcats lost a very close one, 29-27 to Western Alamance…..

Five TD’s for Allen, 4 for Rogers, 3 for Gordon and Trader and Morehead responsible for four, scoring is at a premium here in Guilford County in October.

Dudley topped Western Guilford to set up that Page-Dudley matchup at Dudley next Friday night and the Panthers spread the wealth around with a load of players getting in on the scoring parade. Travores Jenkins and Tre Brown returned interceptions for scores for the Panthers and pretty much helped lock down the Dudley victory. Jenkins, Brown, JR Peterson, Mycah Gaylord, Alex Moore, Demetrius McCorkle; the Panthers can hit you from a lot of different directions.

I was impressed with the Dudley passing game last night and how they worked Jeremy Reynolds, Davarris Martin, David Amerson and even Phillip Chavis into the passing system as key receivers.

Page at Dudley and Glenn at Ragsdale ought to be great next week…….

  1. Dudley will beat page by 12. I’m sure that Page has improved since I saw them play Ragsdale, but I’m thinking that Dudley has improved also. Andy, you have to be planning on being at this game on Friday night.

  2. Don’t sleep on Page when next week!!!! Sure, Dudley has some firepower on offense but the Page coaches and players are a determined bunch! I’ll go so far as to predict they’ll move up a “sleeper” ( #44) from JV for the defense. At any cost, this will be the game to see.

If Drew Rogers brings his “A” game, this game may go well into Friday night/Saturday morning!

    Go Pirates!

  3. I was at Page’s game, and all I’m going to say is that Page has some great players on offense who seem to be clicking together; however, they have to get that defense on the same page. They have the players, and Southern Alamance shouldn’t have been as successful as they were on offense. Granted, I know there were short fields and some trick plays that helped them out (onside kick, half back passes, and fake punts to name a few), but they have to be more hungry than that. They will have their chance to be a conference champ, but they have to put it all together.

Dudley probably does have the better defense, and they will make life hard for Page on offense, so that Page defense will have to STEP IT UP this coming Friday and play the best defense that they have ever played. Page will be the underdog, and I’m sure they are okay with that. The players are playing hard on both sides of the ball, but they have to start meshing to be successful.

I hope Page will come in hungry, determined, and ready to play. I feel that they have the team and players to be successful, and I’m hoping they can pull the upset here. Come on Pirates, win this game.

    WE ARE PAGE!!!!!!!

  4. The mood was very somber in the Smith Golden Eagle lockerrom last night after the Grimsley game.

We now turn our full attention to Page-Dudley this Friday night and also to the Glenn-Ragsdale game, both are pure playoff determiners…..

WS Reynolds-West Forsyth might also factor into where some of our teams end up in rounds 1, 2, or 3.

  5. Eddie, that’s a pretty poor prediction. 21 points for Dudley means three TDs with three kicks for PATs. How many years has it been since Dudley kicked a PAT?

  6. Dudley has already determined that they are going to beat Page this week. Now, I’m all for instilling confidence in young men however–I wouldn’t count the chickens before they hatch. Page is hungry for this win and seem to be a bunch of young men with a lot of heart. This will be the game of the week. BTW–Ragsdale may want to add some humbleness to their menu as well. Fast forward to Saturday morning….

  7. make it 20-10 then. actually I was figuring on 3 touchdowns, one running extra point, and a half a safety!

  8. Hey Upset, You don’t see any Ragsdale people on here talking. The boys let their play do the talking.

  9. Whose really responding up, I don’t think it’s the players so take it for what it’s worth.

  10. The players are not the one’s talking. I am a Panther all the way.
The Pirates have a great football team. They almost beat us last year. Revenge is great motivation and the Panther Coaches understand that. Page is not an under dog.

    keys to a panther victory:
keep penalties to a minimum. Have to complete some pass plays to keep Page defense honest. Can’t leave 2 point conversions unconverted! Our secondary defense has to be ready and our pass rushers must rush the QB. Look for a close game.
