Ragsdale rolls along, bump off Bobcats 23-10

Tonight in jam packed Miller Stadium in Jamestown, Ragsdale clinched at least a tie for the Piedmont Triad 4-A conference title with a 23-10 victory over Glenn. The Tigers can clinch next week with a win over High Point Central.

The tough Tigers defense actually spotted the Bobcats a early lead. Following a three and out on Ragsdale’s first possesion the Bobcats struck quickly as Josh Hawkins sprinted 83tyds for a quick 7-0 lead. Glenn had chances later in the period to increase their advantage but a pair of trips inside the Tiger 30 turned up empty.

After surviving the opening Glenn salvo Ragsdale started their counter offensive by driving 82yds in 11 plays as Barry Brown burst in from the four to tie the contest with 8:56 until intermission. Late in the period Ragsdale took the lead for good as Luke Heavner connected with DeShawn Shouse who turned a short swing pass into a 50yd score.

Glenn responded just before the break as the run based Bobcats surprised the Tigers with the deep ball as Tajvio Walker connected with Will Bownman to put the Bobcats in position for a 24yd FG to end the half by Mitchell THomlinson.

In the 2nd half both defenses stiffened, the only score of the third period was a 30yd Kasey Redfern FG for Ragsdale set up by a poor Glenn punt. The defensive standoff continued into the final stanza but Ragsdale held the cards as Redferns punting kept the Bobcats bottled up deep in their own end and without the passing game needed to keep defenses honest the stout Tiger defense was able to stack the line in anticipation of Hawkins bursts.

Still the Bobcats stayed in contention until a fumbled punt put Ragsdale on the doorstep and the Tigers took full advantage as three plays later Heavner found Peter Romer all alone in the back of the end zone for the clinching score. Ragsdale remains Guilford Counties one undefeated squad as the Tigers took their tally to 10-0. Glenn drops to 8-2.

  1. The usual cast played well Friday night with one player stepping up big, Deshawne Shouse.

Offensively Ragsdale was led by Heavner who threw for 194 yards, with 116 of those yards going to Shouse on 6 catches. D’Onavon Smith ran for 84 yards on the ground. Defensively Daniel McNeil had 7 tackles with 3 tackles for loss. Walt Sparks had 14 tackles and a fumble recovery late in the game.
