Coming out of Practice: Page High School

It was the first day of basketball practice for the high school kids on Monday and I spoke with Page Pirates coach Robert Kent briefly this afternoon about how things went for his Pirates during day one on Monday afternoon.

First of all Page will not have all of their players out for practice until football is complete. The Page Pirate JV football team is unbeaten and they will close out their season this Thursday night at Southeast Guilford.

The JV football players that are trying out for basketball should hit the gym for basketball practice on Monday November 9.

The varsity players will not be finished until sometime next month, the entire athletic department is hoping. At that point the varsity football players will begin their basketball workouts….

Page had right at 35 kids in practice yesterday and the first cuts should be coming up on Wednesday.

Key returnees for Page include upperclassmen Stacey Greene-Senior, De’Mone Harrison-Junior and underclassmen that are back include Frankie Eaves, Jackson Kent, Bryson Fonville, and Justin Conner, all sophomores…..

Frankie Eaves dad, is Jerry Eaves, the head coach of the N.C. A&T Aggies and Jackson Kent’s dad, is Robert Kent, the head coach of the Page Pirates.

Key losses from last year’s Pirate team, that lost in the sectionals to eventual 4-A state champs Mount Tabor, are Julius Brooks now at Loyola of Maryland, A.J. Finney now at Davidson Community College, Mitchell Oates now at High Point Christian along with former Page assistant coach Brandon Clifford, and also Jordan Weethe who blew out his ACL and will not be able to play ball this season. Jordan was set to re-class as a junior at High Point Christian and come back and finish there with the Cougars next year as a senior…..(Colin Daley was also on last year’s squad and I’m not sure where he is.)

Jon Spain will be a big boost to the team once his football season and his committment to the N.C./S.C. Shrine Bowl is complete.

More on the Pirates coming in, after the new players arrive and the team has a few more days of practice under their belts…….
