They’re calling this the “Teague Bowl”: Jimmy Teague vs. Erik Teague tonight here in town

Saturday’s football game between Greensboro College and Methdoist University is a family affair for the Teagues of Reidsville, NC. Jimmy Teague is the first-year offensive coordinator for The Pride. Methodist’s quarterback is senior Erik Teague, Jimmy’s son.

The younger Teague throws for 167 yards passing per game and has tossed five touchdown passes for MU.

“I never would’ve taken the GC job if Erik had a problem with the situation,” Coach Teague said. “This will be a different experience. I’m glad I’m not the defensive coordinator or if Erik played on Methodist’s defense—that’d be even tougher.”

Teague went 198-40 in 17 seasons and won four State titles at RHS. He led the Rams to the 2008 2-AA State Championship, Reidsville’s second straight State crown. He left the Rockingham County program with 32 straight wins—the longest streak in the state.

“One of the greatest experiences in my life was coaching my two sons,” said Coach Teague. His older son, offensive lineman Kelly, played one year of football for The Pride under Coach Marion Kirby in 2000.

“Erik and I wish the best for each other, but we are both competitors,” noted the elder Teague. “I think Erik’s Mom is pulling for him. That’s OK—she knows I have a lot more games to coach.”

The Pride hosts the Monarchs at 7 p.m. at Jamieson Stadium.
