The 4-A Hillside girls basketball team has aspirations of returning to the State Championship game this season. They began their campaign with a hard-fought 47-45 victory over 1-A River Mill.
In a battle that saw many lead changes, Hillside forged ahead early in the 1st quarter only to see River Mill take a four point cushion into halftime. The lead seesawed back and forth in the second half until the Hornets’ Emerald Smith sank two free throws with 8 seconds left in the contest, to put Hillside up by two.
A three point attempt by River Mill rimmed out at the buzzer, to seal the victory.
