Greensboro College has 11 on All-Conference team with Platt and Drumgoole(Ragsdale HS) among those honored

Led by first team selection Andreas Platt, and conference rookie of the year Antwan Thorpe, Greensboro College earned 11 All South selections it was announced today.

A senior defensive back, Platt had 65 tackles (37 unassisted) and three interceptions for The Pride. He intercepted a pass and returned it 40 yards to set up GC’s game-winning field goal against Shenandoah on Nov. 14. That victory gave The Pride its first ever winning season. He also recovered one fumble and had three tackles for loss during the year.

Thorpe, a freshman wide receiver from Oxford, North Carolina, led all rookies with 824 receiving yards this season. His total yards ranked fourth in the USA South while his 70 receptions were the most in the league. Additionally, he caught eight passes for touchdowns which was tied atop the USA South rankings. Thorpe, who was picked to USAS second team, added 137 yards rushing on 45 carries with two touchdowns. For his efforts this season, he was a Second Team All-Conference selection at wide receiver and earned USA South Offensive Rookie of the Week honors four times.

Joining Platt on the conference second team were seniors Brandon Richardson (Charlotte, NC/West Charlotte) and Brandon Drumgoole (Greensboro, NC/Ragsdale). Richardson led conference tight ends with 660 yards and six receiving touchdowns. Drumgoole, a defensive lineman, led the team with 16 tackles for losses and six sacks.

The Pride had four conference honorable mention selections: Nathan Wooten (Mt. Holly, NC/East Gaston), Brian Green (Stuart, VA/Martin County), Devon Morrison (Denver, NC/East Lincoln), Mykel Searcy (Reidsville, NC/Rockingham County ) and Donnie Leopold (Brown Summit, NC/Warwick Valley).

Senior defensive lineman Wooten had 29 tackles and three sacks. Junior defensive lineman Green notched 11 tackles for loss and four sacks. Morrison, a senior linebacker, recorded 74 tackles. Senior defensive back Searcy had 27 tackles and returned an interception 60 yards for a TD at Shenandoah last Saturday. Leopold, a sophomore punter, led the USA South with a 39.2 punting average.

Senior Michael Caparaso (Morganton, NC /Freedom), who played quarterback and tight end for GC this year, was tabbed to All Sportsmanship team.
