Freshman Luqman Tijani (Greensboro, NC/Page High School) had a career high 16 points as Greensboro College (1-3) defeated Maryland Bible, 86-79, on the final day of the North Carolina Wesleyan Tournament. Tijani was 7-9 from the field and tied teammate Walter Brady (St. Petersburg, Fla./Gibbs) with a game-high eight rebounds.
Adam Powell (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach High) had 15 points and Chakiris Moss (Richmond Hill, GA/Richmond Hill High School) and Jason Baker (Detroit, MI/Anchor Bay Prep) both tallied 13 for GC. The Pride dominated the rebounding battle, 43-22.
After the first half, Greensboro held a 45-37 lead. In the first 20 minutes, The Pride led by as many as 16 points and was 9-9 from the free throw line and shot 52-percent (15-29) from the field. Maryland Bible was 14–32 (44-percent) shooting. GC had balanced scoring as all nine of its players tallied two or more points but none had more than seven points. The Pride dominated the glass by its 25-11 rebounding edge.
Damien Trusdale made a jumper that gave rallying MBC a 58-57 lead with 14 minutes left in regulation. The Pride, however, went on an 11-1 run and after Jason Baker’s trey led 68-58 with 9:13 remaining. Maryland Bible cut the advantage to three points twice in the last two minutes, but got no closer.
Ty Burns paced MBC with a game-high 24 Points.
Powell was picked to the all tournament team.
