Ice Hockey Officially Off The Table In Greensboro

It seems as if the Coliseum is sending refunds to the few Season Ticket holders who had kept the faith the someone could step up (or me win the Powerball) would return ice hockey to Greensboro. Refund checks of $50 per seat were mailed on last Tuesday with a short note from Matt Brown “personally thanking you for your past support. Please be assured that the Coliseum will continue its efforts to bring hockey back to Greensboro in the near future.”

Nothing says it is over more than Season Ticket Refunds. The Coliseum has their local home team – UNC-G Mens Basketball – for the time being. Ice Hockey will need to wait until the bad times have been forgotten.

    Yeah, right!

I am sure the economic downturn has not helped matters any, but I have serious doubts as to how sincere the Coliseum’s efforts to bring hockey back after the Generals left ever were. I think the only reason the Generals got a chance was that the Coliseum was banking on the success that the Greensboro Monarchs had from 1989 to 1995, which never materialized.
