Eastern Guilford traveled to Southwest Guilford and won 56-48 in a hard fault battle.

The game went back and forth until Southwest grab a six point lead and led by six heading into the fourth period. Eastern Guilford turned up their defense and their offense got rolling to tie the game.

Kristin Crosby took a key pass from Miranda Jenkins and Courtney Torraine made a key jump shot from the free throw line on an assist from Capricia Small. Eastern grabbed a five point lead and then Southwest closed it to two on a three pointer by Zena Lovett to close the gap to 48-46.

Eastern’s defense was sparked by two critical blocked shots by Miranda Jenkins on what seemed like automatic baskets for Southwest and some key steals underneath the basket by Amerijah Jamison. In desperation Southwest had to foul and Miranda and Capricia calmly knocked down their free throws to preserve the victory.

Miranda Jenkins scored 27 and Capricia Small scored 16 to lead Eastern and Zena Lovett lead the Cowgirls with 14. Eastern has now won two in a row since their opening day loss. Southwest is 0-1.
