Jazz Gibbs from Southeast Guilford puts Guilford women over W&L

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Jazlyn Gibbs’ (Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford (South Carolina-Aiken)) three-pointer with 5.6 seconds left in regulation gave Guilford a 55-52 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over visiting Washington and Lee University Wednesday night.

Gibbs’ basket helped thwart a Washington and Lee (1-3, 1-1 ODAC) rally that saw the guests make six-of-11 second-half three-pointers to erase a 10-point deficit.

Guilford (3-3, 1-2 ODAC) led 52-46 after a Jasmine Wood basket with 3:15 remaining, but did not score again until Gibbs’ game-winner. Rachel Warrick’s trifecta pulled the Generals to within 52-50 at the 1:36 mark and Becca Bolton’s (Pittsboro, N.C./Chatham Central) two free throws with 52 seconds left tied the game for the first time in the second half.

Gibbs paced the Quakers with a career-high 14 points and Wood finished with 12 points, nine boards and four assists. Teammate Lauren LeFevers contributed nine points and 10 boards off the bench.

Bolton’s 16 points and 19 rebounds led all players. Warrick finished with 12 points off the bench thanks to two three-pointers.

The Quakers are back in action Saturday against visiting Lynchburg College in a 4:00 p.m. ODAC game.
