Top of the hill for our man Hilliard with 30 last night, but PG grabs the win over AHS in a thriller

You’ve heard of the Thrilla in Manilla?

Well they had one down in Asheboro last night, as our man from LA(Lower Asheboro), Saegan Hilliard, pumped in 30 big points, but it just wasn’t enough as Providence Grove led by their heavyweight, Zeb Millner with 33, took the tail of the tape and slipped past the AHS Blue Comets on a late bucket and this one was, one for the books…..

The word on the Thursday Night Titans from www.courier-tribune.com.

To the pages of the Asheboro Courier Tribune we go and the complete story is available when you click on the above link…..

ASHEBORO — With 1.3 seconds left on the clock and his team down by one, Providence Grove’s Ryan Powell looked to inbound the ball and help his team to a win.

Powell heaved the perfect pass to teammate Tyler See, who was alone under the basket. See banked his shot off the backboard and it went in, giving the Patriots a 66-65 win over Asheboro on Thursday at AHS. The win made the night a split for the teams as the Blue Comets outmuscled Providence Grove 68-42 in the girls game.

With the nightcap tied at 63-all, See went to the free-throw line with 10.3 seconds remaining in the game, making 1 of 2 to give the Patriots a 64-63 lead.

Saegan Hilliard took the ball and drove the full length of the court, drawing the Providence Grove defenders to him, and dished the ball off to teammate Clay Boroughs, who made the easy layup. The bucket looked like the game-winner until the officials cleared the court as Patriots coach Jim Young had called timeout, leaving 1.3 seconds left on the clock.

Enough time for the Powell-See play that won the game.

  1. Andy i’m telling you that Millner kid can flat out play. He’s somewhat like John Wall. He’s an even better football player. Scratching my head as to why he didn’t make the shrine bowl. Best DB in this area. 7 pics this year with four to the house. In week 8 he had an 80 yard pick 6 against Cummings, and in week 9 he had a 99 yard pic 6 against Graham. Maybe we can make a push to get him in the East-West game in football or basketball. By the way he runs a 4.3 forty. His little brother isn’t bad either. Powell is a big TE for the football.
