With a schedule that includes area powers such as Dudley, Smith, Grimsley etc., it would have been easy for Western Guilford to overlook the young 3A Southern Guilford squad that they beat handily by 23 in late November.

However, the Hornets started on fire and didn’t lower the flame until the 4th quarter. Riding on the hot shooting of Western Carolina commit Reggie Perkins, Western put the game out of reach early. going up 11-0. With Antwan Wilkerson taking the ball from coast to coast and Perkins raining threes from anywhere and everywhere, it seemed that Hornet coach Artimuss Wade was the only one in the gym who could stop them…by sitting them down!

Southern still has a way to go but this tough Western team should get them ready for the slew of upcoming 3A conference games. Moreover, Wade had the opportunity to play many of his younger or underused players, who were eager to show their coach that they could bring it.

This was an impressive win for the Hornets who once again proved that their balanced inside and out game will be a tough match for most teams.
