I want to say that I am real proud of both the Lady Bison & Cowgirls for playing a great game! And although SW lost, I am proud of how they played!!
Way to hang in there Lady Bison! I agree both the Cowgirls and the Lady Bison played a good game. It’s going to be intresting to watch them go head up in the next two, maybe three games when they meet again.
My first time seeing Westchester. They are talented and their role players are pretty good. Deuce is definitely a talent but man is he lazy on D. I never knew Coach Kahne was so wild on the bench. I thought his antics got his players focusing on the officials early in the game and not on hoops. Regardless it was an exciting game. Wesleyan played better and deserved to win. I also hear they have a 6’4 guard that will begin play next week. Should def help them with pressure.
Wesleyan definately deserved to win last night. The game was sloppy and both teams looked sluggish from having played three straight nights. I thought Mitchell Purgason was the difference. He played a really heady game and hit several key 3s.
CJ Plummer and Cole Morgenstern kept Westchester in the game with their effort but the overall defensive effort was not good.
In their closest contest this season, Western Guilford managed to get the victory over Southern Guilford in the final minutes to claim a 62-54 non-conference win in the Bank of NC Christmas Classic.
The victory saw juniors Reggie Perkins and Tyler Stutts combine for 28 points respectively. Perkins’ 4th quarter consecutive three pointer and spin/reverse layup move was a turning point in the game as Southern had built a 44-38 lead after a third quarter buzzer beater by Keemon Ingram. Ingram led all scorers with 23 points but it was not enough to thwart a determined Western squad.
Southern, who lost by 23 and 27 in their first two games with Western Guilford, received much need support from Eddie Odom’s 12 points and 4 assists. Austen Thompson ran the Storm offense efficiently and chipped in five assists. Antwan Wilkerson and Perkins wrapped up a strong tournament for Western with their usual double figure game: 12 points apiece.
Outscoring the Storm 24-10 in the final quarter, the Hornets finally worked their game plan and looked more like the squad who easily handled the Storm earlier this season. Tyler Stutts showed coach Art Wade his value by grabbing numerous offensive rebounds and hitting 7 consecutive free throws down the stretch.
Storm coach Corey Phillips’ defensive scheme led to many Hornet turnovers and baskets on the other end. Ingram, who hit four three pointers, closed the lead to 53-49 with a little over a minute left but Stutt’s ice-water vein shooting from the charity stripe did not let his team down.
Anyone watching Wednesday’s game for fifth and sixth place was treated to quite a show as Odom and Ingram made their way to the free throw stripe on some athletic drives to the hoop; only to be countered by 6’6†Wilkerson’s threes or Perkins slashes through the defense. As conference season looms, both these teams seem ready to do well for the remainder of this season.
