Big win by Greensboro Collge women over MBC Squirrels to start the New Year: Wilborn and Richburg again set tempo

Greensboro, NC — Nikki Wilborn (Graham NC/Graham) and Bianca Richburg (Hillsborough/Orange High School) recorded double-doubles as Greensboro College defeated Mary Baldwin, 71-46, at Hanes Gym on Saturday. Wilborn tallied a game high 18 points and dished 11 assists. Richburg scored 14 and had a game-leading 16 rebounds.

Elizabeth Ferguson (Ruffin, NC/Rockingham County H.S.) chipped in with a season-high 16 points for Greensboro. The Pride improved to 3-6 and 1-3 in the USA South. The Fighting Squirrels dropped to 4-3 and 3-1 in conference.

The Pride led 23-9 at halftime. GC held MBC to 13-percent shooting (4-32) in the first half. For the game, the visitors shot 16-71 (23-percent) to 19-49 for (39-percent) The Pride.

The home club held a big advantage on the boards. GC collected 65 caroms to 32 for Mary Baldwin. #Jordan Joyce3 had 11 rebounds for the green and white.

Denise Johnson netted 17 and Iiesha Ricks added 14 points for MBC. The Squirrels forced 33 Pride turnovers but made just 3-35 three-pointers.

Ten of GC’s eleven players scored in the game. Pride newcomers Sarah Cain and Keshia Stone score in their first action. Stone made 7-11 free throw for her points and Cain was 1-2 from the charity stripe.

The Pride hosts Peace College on Monday night. The USAS game tips off at 7 p.m.
