Guilford College men’s basketball moves to (12-1): Best start since 1967-1968

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Guilford College’s men’s basketball team matched the
program’s best start since 1967 with a convincing 78-42 Old Dominion
Athletic Conference (ODAC) win over visiting Randolph College Saturday.

The Quakers’ eighth straight win moved their record to 12-1 (3-1 ODAC),
their best since the 1967-68 club went 15-1. Ranked sixth in this week’s
D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, Guilford made 19-of-30 first-half field goals and
grabbed a 46-15 halftime lead. The margin grew to as many as 46 points
midway through the second half.

Guilford limited the Wildcats (8-5, 2-4 ODAC) to 30 percent field-goal
shooting for the game and enjoyed a 46-25 rebounding advantage.

Guilford senior center Tyler Sanborn (Mount Airy, N.C./Elkin) posted his
eighth straight double-double with 16 points and 18 rebounds in 21 minutes.
He moved to within eight points of becoming the Quakers’ 29th member of the
1,000 career points club. Teammate Clay Henson (Glen Alpine, N.C./Freedom)
made his first six shots from the floor and finished with 15 points and six
rebounds. Martin Stephenson (Cary, N.C./Cary) made all six field goals and
scored 12 points. Rookie Josh Pittman (Archdale, N.C./Trinity) dished out a
career-high 10 assists, the most by a Quaker since 2004.

Dylan Shifflett’s (Virginia Beach, Va./Cape Henry) 10 points off the bench
paced Randolph. Rookie teammate Colton Hunt (Whittier, N.C./Smoky Mountain)
contributed six points, five boards, seven assists and two steals.
Guilford returns to action Wednesday (1/13) at league-foe Emory & Henry
College at 7:00 p.m.
