Greensboro, NC – Ferrum College outscored Greensboro College 11-7 in the overtime period and defeated The Pride, 82-78, in a USA South game on Wednesday night. The contest was sent to extra time after Pernell Davis (Boynton Beach/Boynton Beach High School) made an off-balance three-pointer that had to be confirmed by video review.

Jerrell Wade had 21 points and Derek Mitchell added 19 and 10 rebounds for the visitors. GC’s Adam Powell (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach High) and Davis had 17 and 15 points respectively. Walter Brady (St. Petersburg, Fla./Gibbs) had a double-double for GC with 11 points and 10 boards. RJ Smith (Charleston, SC/Porter Gaud School) added 11 for the home club.

FC improved to 8-1 and 2-1 in the USA South. GC is now 7-1, 1-1.

Officials ruled the shot good. Ferrum Coach Bill Tharp then requested confirmation via GC’s video review, allowable by NCAA rules. The three officials reviewed the shot numerous times on The Pride’s vdeo equipment and confirmed the shot.

Ferrum led at the break 44-31. The Pride, however, rallied and took the lead after a Powell three-point play with 5:29 left made the score 62-60.

Prior to the Davis three that sent then game to extra time, GC ran a play for Davis. That trey was off the mark and rebounded by Gary Brandt. Brandt then slipped and traveled, which allowed the Davis opportunity.

Ferrum shot 57-percent (30-56) to The Pride’s 42-percent (30-67). The visitors had the edge in rebounds 39-38. The pride committed 19 and forced 20 turnovers.
