Guilford College men by 12 over Bridgewater: Quakers now stand at (16-1)

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Clay Henson scored a game-high 28 points and Tyler Sanborn added 17 points and 19 rebounds to lift Guilford College past visiting Bridgewater College Wednesday night in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball game.

The Quakers, ranked second in this week’s D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, moved to 16-1 (7-1 ODAC) on the year, the best start in school history. Guilford has won 12 straight games, the program’s third-longest winning streak, including three in the last five days.

Bridgewater (5-9, 3-5 ODAC) led for the better part of the first half before the Quakers outscored the Eagles, 14-3, over the final 2:44 to take a 42-32 halftime lead. Henson scored 13 in the opening period, eight in the final 1:48. Including a 30-point performance in Monday’s home win over Roanoke, Henson has scored 58 points and 14 three-pointers in his last two games.

The Eagles shot 56 percent from the floor in the second half, including six-of-12 from three-point range. However, Bridgewater also turned the ball over 10 times in the period and never drew closer than seven points.

Dominic Trawick paced the Eagles with 22 points, seven rebounds and a game-high four assists. Teammate Jake Johnson chipped in with 16 points.

Guilford’s Rhett Bonner made three-of-five three-pointers and finished with 18 points. Behind Sanborn’s season-high rebounding performance, the Quakers enjoyed a 41-22 rebounding edge and earned 20 second-chance points to the Eagles’ nine thanks to 19 offensive boards.

Guilford returns to action Jan. 27 at league-rival Roanoke.
