The second game of the SlamFest up in Richmond, Virginia matched undefeated Phoebus of Hampton, ranked No. 5 in the Virginia HS AP poll, against Greensboro Dudley, one of the top teams in North Carolina. The Phoebus Phantoms won 84-76.

In one of the other real big games at the SlamFest:
The feature game in the ninth renewal of Slamfast matched Benedictine, ranked No. 3 in The Times-Dispatch Top 10, and No. 5 John Marshall. It was billed as the River City championship.

Each team’s star – Travis McKie of John Marshall (last year’s T-D player of the year) and Mike Gbinije – also drew the spotlight last night at the Siegel Center.

Benedictine won a good game, 79-76. McKie’s stats line of 37 points (14 for 20 from the floor), 15 rebounds and two blocked shots was impressive. So was Gbinije’s: 29 points, seven rebounds and four blocks. He also earned the game’s MVP award.
