Sensational Sanborn with another double-double sends Guilford to (17-1) for Quakers best start in school history

SALEM, Va. – Tyler Sanborn scored a career-high 29 points and collected 18 rebounds to lift second-ranked Guilford College to an 86-70 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) men’s basketball win at Roanoke College Wednesday.

Sanborn’s league-leading 15th double-double lifted the Quakers (17-1, 8-1 ODAC) to their 13th straight victory and improved the program’s best start in school history. He had 20 points and 14 points by halftime, which staked Guilford to a 36-26 lead at the break. Sanborn also added four blocks, three assists and a steal in his 25 minutes of work.

The Quakers’ senior guard tandem of Clay Henson and Rhett Bonner took over in the second half, combining for 30 points in the period. Bonner tallied 17 of his 21 points in the half and Henson netted 13 of his 21 points. Guilford shot 15-of-29 (51.7%) in the second half, including 5-for-10 from three-point range.

Parrish Walker(Dudley HS) scored 15 points and Melvin Felix added 13 points for Roanoke, which was outrebounded, 51-26.

Guilford, ranked second in this week’s D3hoops.com Top 25 Poll, visits ninth-ranked Randolph-Macon College Saturday (1/30) in a 4:00 p.m. ODAC game.
