If we were choosing ACC Player of the Year today is it John Scheyer or is there anybody that wins the award?/ACC men’s standings

If we selected the ACC Player of-the-Year today, would it be John Scheyer from Duke, or does anybody win this award?

The ACC only has two teams left in the Top 25 with Duke and Georgia Tech and is there a bona fide ACC Player of the Year out there in the league right now?????(Look at this one poll with Cornell in the Top 25 and we only have two ACC teams in there….OUCH!) 25. Cornell 18-3 Click Here to check out the entire basketball poll…..

Coach Smith and Coach Sloan would be turning over in their graves if they saw the standings that we have posted below…..On second thought, Coach Smith may not be in his grave yet, but if he looked closely at those standings, he might be ready to jump on in………

ACC Player of the Year? Will they name one this year, or might this be a good time to skip the award and bring it back next season?????

  1. Andy,

This is sad but true. If you look back at the last 4 or 5 years the Tar heels have carried the ACC. That is obviously not happening this year. No other team has stepped up the past few years in March. If the season ended today, this would be the WEAKEST the ACC has ever been.I like Scheyer, but if he’s the best, the ACC has problems. What is going on here? Why is it weak?
I think the BEST player in the ACC is the Landesburg kid from Virginia as far as talent and upside but that doesnt make him a player of the year kind of guy.

  2. Hey Andy, I think you are right. There was once upon a time when the ACC was like a Titan that walked among humans. Now The ACC is very weak. I grew up. went to college, and worked in Big-East country with John Thompson, Lou Carnesseca. Jon Chaney, and Boeheim. Now we have the type of basketball today that lives and dies with the 3 pt shot. Teams no longer play defense, rebound proper;y,
run back door plays, full court offense or defense. Andy, I think the whole NCAA is down. Bring Back the 70’s
Maguire, Smith, Bartow, Sloan, Wooden. Meyer. Those were the good old days.

  3. Those names you bring up from the 70’s really bring back the good memories….

Lefty, Carl Tacy, Vic Bubas, Wimp Sanderson, Guy Lewis, Terry Holland, Joe B. Hall, Hugh Durham, Bill Fosters(There were two at the time with one at Duke from Utah and the other at Clemson and Virginia Tech)….

Lou Carnesseca was one of the all-time favorites with his red sweater and I still remember when he left St. John’s to try the gig over with the New Yorks Nets of the ABA and then ended up coming back to the Redmen…

Dave Gavitt was another and there was Hank Raymonds and as you say so many more of those coaches that left an impression on us….

    Those were the days…..
