Guilford College women cross the Bridgewater Eagle women and end up on the other side with 64-61 victory

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Ann Seufer scored a team-high 15 points, including the go-ahead three-pointer with 1:21 left, in Guilford College’s 64-61 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) basketball win over Bridgewater College Thursday night.

The tightly contested affair featured seven ties and 13 lead changes, including five in the second half. Jordan Burkholder’s jumper with 3:14 left in regulation opened a 59-52 Eagles’ lead, their largest of the game. The basket also marked Bridgewater’s final field goal as the Quakers ended the game on a 12-2 run.

Guilford sophomore Jazlyn Gibbs (Greensboro, N.C./Southeast Guilford(USC-Aiken)) drained two clutch three-pointers in the final minutes, including one with 1:51 left that pulled the Quakers to within 61-59. Guilford’s Jasmine Wood made her fourth steal of the night on the ensuing possession and Gibbs found an open Seufer, who knocked down her fifth three-pointer of the night to give the Quakers the lead for good.

Both teams squandered scoring chances in the final 1:21 before Guilford freshman Brittany Atwater’s two free throws with 10 seconds left provided the game’s final margin. Bridgewater’s Bianca Booker got off a three-pointer with four seconds left, but missed the mark and Guilford gained a split of the season series with the Eagles.

All of Seufer’s scoring came from three-point range as she shot five-for-eight from long range. Atwater finished with 12 points and five assists off the bench and Gibbs added 10 points for Guilford. Alexa Williams scored nine points and shared game-high rebounding honors (8) with Wood.

Burkholder and Jenny Logan shared game-high scoring honors with 16 points apiece. Burkholder paced Bridgewater with seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Logan had a game-high six assists.

Guilford returns to action Tuesday (2/9) at league-rival Lynchburg College in a game rescheduled from Jan. 30. The Quakers’ game with Eastern Mennonite University, scheduled for Saturday (2/6), has been postponed indefinitely.
