GIRLS:

HPC 16 17 4 14 – 51
Ragsdale 13 8 11 2 – 34

Ragsdale hung around with the Lady Bison and made a nice comeback in the third quarter to get within 5, outscoring HPC 11 – 4 in the quarter. But Central has too many weapons and utilized the press and fast break to blow the game open early in the fourth.

Neither team shot the ball well from long range, with Ragsdale only hitting two threes and Central putting up an 0-fer from deep, missing over 10 three point attempts. Arielle Harris was great on the inside leading the Lady Bison in scoring with 21 points.

The win moves Central to 19 – 3 and 8 – 3 in the Piedmont Triad. Back to back losses earlier this week to Northwest Guilford and Southwest Guilford eliminated Central from the race for first place as they will reside in third after the dust settles on the regular season.

Ragsdale was led in scoring by Kaitlyn Harrison with 10 points. The Lady Tigers could not get into their offense in the fourth quarter because of the tenacious Central defense and were unable to score a basket, the only points coming on two foul shots.

Ragsdale falls to 12 – 10 and 5 – 6, but still have fourth place wrapped up with one game remaining.

BOYS:

HP Central 11 13 14 8 – 46
Ragsdale 8 16 12 7 – 43

Central got a huge win at Ragsdale tonight and kept alive their hopes for first place in the Piedmont Triad. It was a physical, defensive battle that went down to
the end.

Trailing by 12 early in the second quarter, Ragsdale went on a 16 – 4 run over the last 4:24 to go into the half knotted at 24 – 24. Tyquan Roberts got 8 of the points during the run. The third quarter saw both teams work the ball inside as Central got 6 points each from Shaquille Bethea and Derek Grant, while Ragsdale got 6 from center Devante Fletcher as Central retook the lead at 38 – 36 going to the final 8 minutes.

Ragsdale went up by 4 points at 43 – 39 after Kalik Parker got back to back hoops, the second one a three pointer. That basket came at the 6:17 mark of the fourth and from that point on the Tigers would not score another point.

Central then scored 6 in a row with baskets from Sam Eberhart and Grant and two foul shots from Bethea which put them in the lead at 45 – 43 with 1:41 left.

From that point on it got ugly. Ragsdale couldn’t hit a shot or get a rebound while Central went 1 for 6 from the free throw line missing two front ends of 1 and 1’s. On the other end, Ragsdale missed a contested layups and two foul shots. Ragsdale got one more desperation shot at the buzzer which was no good and Central secured the 3 point win.

Shaquille Bethea led the Bison with 16 points while Derek Grant added 11. Akeem Langham had 9. Ragsdale was led by Tyquan Roberts with 14 and Devante Fletcher with 10. Most of the points for both teams came in the paint as this was a bruising battle from start to finish. There just weren’t many open looks.

Now it comes down to this…Ragsdale is 8 – 3 and High Point Central is 7 – 4. Both teams are scheduled to play tomorrow (weather permitting). Ragsdale is at home against East Forsyth and Central is at home against Parkland.

If Ragsdale wins they wrap up first place. If Ragsdale loses and Central beats Parkland, they get the Piedmont Triad regular season bye by virtue of defeating Ragsdale twice.

  1. looks like they have canceled the conference tourney because of having the teams play everyday next week. The final conference standings will be the seeds for the sectionals.
