Gelin and Pennell get first wins as Greensboro College tops Emory in Atlanta

Atlanta, Ga. — Freshman Hannah Pennell pitched a complete game and Greensboro College scored twice after back-to-back doubles by Rebecca Pink (Apex, NC/Apex) and Brittany Parsons (Wilkesboro, NC/West Wilkes) in the sixth inning as The Pride won at Emory, 2-1, on Sunday. The victory was the first college softball win for rookie Head Coach Whitney Gelin.

Emory jumped out to a 1-0 lead against Greensboro when Walsh came through with a two-out single in the bottom of the first that scored junior Nikki Perez. On the mound, Holloway kept the Pride off the scoreboard until the sixth inning when GC scored its two runs.

Emory threatened in the bottom of the seventh as sophomore Jessica Thomas was on third base with two out. However, The Pride (1-2) held on for the win.. Emory dropped to 1-3.

The Pride knocked even hits to EU’s four. Pennell got her first college win after allowing four hits and fanning three Eagles.

GC next plays at Guilford on Feb. 17.
