Freshmen MacDonald and Richburg win USA South rookie honors for Greensboro College

Taylor MacDonald (Pinebluff, NC/Pinecrest High School) and Bianca Richburg (Hillsborough/Orange High School) have been named USA South Conference rookie of the week winners for their respective sports.

The USA South’s first baseball rookie pitcher of the week honor goes to MacDonald. The freshman recorded a save in his only appearance so far this season. In a 9-8 win over Lynchburg, MacDonald pitched the last 2.2 innings and gave up one run on two hits with two strikeouts as The Pride kept the lead and earned MacDonald his first career save.

Richburg was chosen the women’s basketball rookie of the Week for the fifth time this year. The freshman forward helped The Pride to a 1-1 record versus USA South competition last week by averaging a double-double of 20.5 points, 12.0 rebounds to go along with 1.5 blocks, 1.5 steals and 1.0 assists per game. In a 73-57 win over N.C. Wesleyan, Richburg tallied a double-double of game-highs with 24 points and 14 rebounds. She also added one assist and one block in the victory. In a 57-49 loss to Peace, Richburg notched her second double-double of the week with a team-high 17 points and a game-high ten rebounds. She also added a team-high three steals and two blocks in the defeat.
