Greensboro College tops Methodist men at Hanes Gym

Greensboro, NC — #R.J.# Smith had a team-high 21 points as Greensboro College defeated visiting Methodist, 92-73, at Hanes Gym on Tuesday night. Chakiris Moss (Richmond Hill, GA/Richmond Hill High School) added 20 points for GC which improved to 10-13 (3-7 USAS) and snapped a five game winless streak.

Smith was 5-13 from the field and, made four 3-pointers and 7-8 free throws. Moss was 7-11 shooting. The Pride had two other players in double-digits. Adam Powell (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach High) netted 17 and Andre Porter (Hope Mills, NC/Southview) added 10. Powell had a game-high 10 rebounds. Lweis Owenby had five blocked shots for the home club.

The Pride led 47-31 at the break. Greensboro took its biggest lead, 66-41, after Moss nailed a jumper with 11:34 remaining.

GC shot 52-percent (29-61) to MU’s 45-percent (28-64). The Pride won the battle of the boards, 41-35, and committed 13 and forced 16 turnovers.

Mark Jernigan tallied a game-high 23 points for Methodist (2-21, 2-8).

The Pride hosts CNU on Friday night and Shenanodah on Saturday afternoon.
