EDEN — Butch Huffman’s buzzer-beating layup at the end of regulation helped fifth-seeded Eastern Guilford score an 85-81 overtime victory against fourth-seed Eden Morehead in Monday night’s first round of the Mid-State 3-A Conference Tournament for boys’ basketball.
After Eden Morehead (8-12) took a 72-70 lead with six seconds left, Huffman took the inbounds pass and drove the length of the floor to hit a layup as time expired to send the game into overtime.
Once in the extra period, the Wildcats (14-10) took control thanks to four points each by Brandon Hairston and Tre Radcliffe.
*****You’ve got to believe that there was some hair flying in the wind, when Butch Huffman went flying down the court, for that last-second layup, up in Eden on Monday night….*****
